One of the most intimate, personal, and developed ways of practicing yoga, a Mysore class environment is a traditional way to learn and start a yoga practice.
The student is empowered by learning his/her own yoga practice and develops a trusting relationship with the teacher. It is perhaps the only way that the more advanced asanas can be learned safely.
Ashtanga Yoga is a purifying, healing practice that increases the strength in the body and frees up the tightest areas, while promoting an inner calm. Ashtanga is known for building a cleansing, internal heat. It is also known for taking yoga students to places they would not have dared to dream. If one likens the practice to earth elements, the vinyasas provide the "fire," and the breath provides the "air." The idea is to stoke the internal fire with a smooth, even breath. The blood becomes cleaner, impurities are removed, and the result is a very healthy body and clearer mind.
This style of yoga will undoubtedly change your body for the healthier. This yoga practice is cumulative, as one asana builds the foundation for the next. Each student is taught asanas carefully and intentionally, one at a time, by the teacher. All levels are welcome, but the true joy of the practice will be felt after some dedicated months. Women past 4 months of pregnancy must have an established practice.
